Manual Therapy in Winston-Salem, NC

Restore mobility and reduce restrictions so you can train without limitations

Dry needling, spinal manipulation, and soft tissue techniques delivered by performance-focused orthopedic specialists who integrate hands-on work with your training plan.

When manual therapy alone isn't enough to keep you training

You get temporary relief but no lasting change

Massage or adjustments feel good in the moment, but the tightness or restriction keeps coming back because nothing addresses the underlying issue.

You're always chasing the next treatment

You're stuck in a cycle of appointments just to feel okay, without a plan to build the strength and capacity you actually need to train consistently.

No one connects the manual work to your sport

Providers who don't understand your training can't tailor their techniques to help you get back to squatting, running, or overhead work with confidence.

How manual therapy supports athlete performance

When integrated with active rehab, manual techniques help athletes train more consistently and with better movement quality.

I was referred to PT by ortho for some persistent hip pain, and I intentionally sought out a PT that did not work in a huge corporate practice. Several friends/coworkers had seen Dr. Levi and recommended him highly. Great. I was sold! He did a super thorough exam on day one and put together a treatment plan that focused on getting me back to my workouts. We did incorporate dry needling, which may sound a little scary, but it ended up being totally manageable and really helpful for my recovery.

What I appreciated most was how Levi adapted everything to fit my personal training program. The exercises were challenging but doable, and the “homework” never felt overwhelming because it actually worked with what I was already doing. Over about 6–8 weeks I saw major improvement and eventually got all the way back to my baseline.

The best part, though, was Levi himself—he’s super engaged, easy to talk to, and treats you like a real person, not just another patient on the schedule. If you’re dealing with pain and want someone who actually listens and helps you get back to the things you love, I cannot recommend him enough.

My experience with Dr. Lauren was amazing! I came to her with back pain that I had been struggling with for years as a gymnast. I had tried so many other options (massage therapy, Rolfing, a chiropractor, and even pt at another clinic). I had actually started to believe I would have to live with the pain forever and never be able to enjoy gymnastics in the same way again. I was wrong. I am finally seeing major improvements, and I’m starting to feel like myself again. Lauren always made me feel very comfortable and at ease. She is warm, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable. I actually looked forward to my sessions because I found each one incredibly value and also a lot of fun! Each session started with me sharing about how my body was feeling that week. After the initial check in and conversation, Lauren did dry needling (because I found it very helpful). From there, we moved onto exercises that were tailored to me and my treatment plan. Lauren was always very encouraging throughout. I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Lauren and Kinetic Performance and Rehab. It has truly changed my life!

Levi is the best PT I have ever been to. Besides being extremely knowledgable, he really understands the body from an exercise/performance mindset. I had bicep tendonitis and through dry needling, body work and easy to do exercises to do at home I was pain free in a minimal amount time. Highly recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about manual therapy and dry needling at KPR.

Does dry needling hurt?

Most people describe it as a quick pinch or muscle twitch. The sensation is brief, and many athletes notice immediate improvement in mobility or reduction in local tightness within 48 hours.

How is this different from massage or chiropractic care?

We use manual techniques as part of a performance-focused rehab plan, not as standalone treatments. You'll also get corrective exercises and programming so the benefits last beyond the session.

Will I need manual therapy for every visit?

Not necessarily. We use it when it makes sense for your goals and current restrictions. Some people benefit from it early on, while others focus more on active rehab and loading progressions.

Can manual therapy fix my issue on its own?

Manual work helps reduce pain and improve mobility, but it's most effective when paired with strength training and corrective exercises that address the root cause and build capacity to prevent recurrence.

Is manual therapy covered if I'm using Aetna?

If you're in-network with Aetna, manual therapy techniques like dry needling and manipulation are typically covered as part of your physical therapy visits. We'll clarify coverage during your evaluation.
