Physical Therapist, Owner

I am a native West Virginian (I'm sure you've got jokes), an outdoors/fly fishing enthusiast, guitarist, and Crossfitter. I grew up on a rural farm and spent my time playing various sports and being outside. I've always known and appreciated the value in being physically able to do the things I love. This translated to me earning my Doctorate from Marshall University in 2017. Given my interests in performance and active living, I have worked to become an Orthopedic Certified Specialist, the highest orthopedic designation recognized by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. After working 4+ years in the field, I became frustrated seeing people pushed through traditional clinics like human assembly lines. Out of this, Kinetic Performance and Rehab was born. My mission is to create a highly relational, time efficient, clinically excellent, and gratifying experience for active individuals that often fall through cracks in the healthcare system. In a world that says "stop running", "stop lifting", and "stop moving", I believe there is a different path. As an individual who has had my fair share of injuries/setbacks, I know what it's like to feel stuck. Sometimes the first step in achieving your goals is realizing you need help. That's why I'm here and why I do what I do. Let's get after it!

Physical Therapist

I’m originally from New Orleans, Louisiana but have spent the majority of my career in Baton Rouge – home to the LSU Tigers. I did not grow up wrestling alligators and still have all of my teeth. I grew up playing competitive softball and doing traditional strength training. I graduated with my doctorate in physical therapy from Columbia University in New York City which was such a wonderful experience. I encourage people to get away from home and see what else is out there. To take a page out of an old LSU coach’s playbook: “home is where you make it.” After physical therapy school, I found a passion for HIIT type workouts. My favorite outdoor activities are golf and beach (sand) volleyball.

I witnessed the mental and physical toll on myself, friends, and patients when plagued with an injury. I started on a journey to further my knowledge and achieved a Board Certification as an Orthopedic Clinic Specialist. It became frustrating to fully treat patients in a traditional clinic setting due to insurance complications and restrictions along with the growing pressure to squeeze more patients into a treatment day. My husband and I, along with my two crazy German Shepherds, moved to North Carolina right before Christmas 2023. I made it a mission to help the people of this community better than I could have at home. In a healthcare system driven by quantity over quality, I want to be able to break the mold and make YOUR healthcare about YOU. This is when I met Levi and realized his goals and mission lined up with mine. The rest is history in the making...

"Ins and OUTs" of The Patient first PT Model.

How it Works.

Healthcare quality is at an all time low. Insurance premiums, copays, and deductibles are increasing, yet insurance reimbursement for healthcare services are declining. Traditional physical therapy clinics solve this problem with simple math. If they get paid less per patient, they just need more patients in the same time period. This is why you'll commonly find PTs in insurance based clinics "treating" 2, 3, 4+ patients at a time. Unfortunately, the patient loses out in these scenarios.

Enter the "out of network" or cash model. Out of network practices such as KPR do not contract directly with any insurance provider. Treatments are not limited by what is "covered" or "not covered". Instead, we accept payment in full at the time of service or choose an individual payment plan. Patients are provided a superbill to self submit to their insurance if they choose. Depending on your specific plan, you may be reimbursed for some/all/none of the services provided. If you have a HSA/FSA, you can pay directly with your HSA/FSA. The beauty of this model is that it gives the power to you -the patient. No unexpected and unbudgeted bills 3-4 months later. By knowing to the dollar what services are going to cost before your plan of care starts, you are able to make an informed decision on what's right for you. The result is 100% healthcare transparency.

Why it works, the math.

What is your most valuable and precious asset? I would argue, that it's your TIME. Perhaps a better question is, "What is your time worth to you?". At Kinetic Performance and Rehab, we value your time and can save you a LOT of it. Because all visits are 1 on 1 with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, results can be achieved in much fewer visits. Lets take a look at and example of how this works practically:

Patient A opts for traditional insurance based rehab. Because these businesses operate on volume, Patient A spends 20 minutes per hour session with a PT and is scheduled 3x a week for 4 weeks. Let's assume the average commute is 30 minutes total per visit.

Patient A's total time cost is 18 hours (12 visits x 1 hour + 30 minutes commute x 12 commutes). Over the course of this plan they spend 4 hours of contact time with a PT (20 minutes x 12 sessions).

Patient B commits to a 6 visit package with KPR. They are seen 1 on 1 for an hour for all 6 visits. Lets assume the same 30 minute total commute time per visit.

Patient B's total time cost is 9 hours (6 visits x 1 hour + 6 x 30 minutes commute). They receive 6 hours of direct contact time with a PT allowing for additional treatment time, faster progress, and returning to what they love sooner. They additionally have more time left over to spend with their family/friends, working, or on hobbies that bring them joy.

As much as we'd like it to, life isn't slowing down. Your time is a resource that you can never get back, and you need a healthcare team that understands this simple truth.

Who it works for.

Kinetic Performance and Rehab is a place for anybody, but not the place for everybody. Our clinic is located inside a gym, and feels more like a training facility than a medical clinic. This is intentional. Getting better often looks a lot like hard work and commitment. Our mission is to serve active individuals who have goals of getting back to doing what they love. If you've ever been to a traditional PT clinic and felt "out of place", KPR is likely the place for you.

Those who value relationships and clinically excellent care/service are a great match. Busy professionals and active individuals with high deductibles or copays are also a great fit. They will often find the cost of a plan of care with KPR is comparable (or even less in many cases) to traditional PT. Whether you pay more or less in the cash model will depend on your specific insurance plan. The best way to explore this is to contact us so we can get to know you and your specific situation.
